Cincinnati : P&G donates $75,000 to LULAC for Education

At the 78th Annual LULAC National Conference, which took place in Chicago July 9-14, Scott Stewart, Director of P&G Multicultural External Relations donated on behalf of Procter & Gamble a check for $75,000 to LULAC National Educational Service Centers (LNESC). LNESC is dedicated to increasing educational opportunities for minority and low-income students of all ages. Initiatives include: Young Readers Program, Hispanic Leadership Opportunity Program and College Explorers Program. LULAC Cincinnati Chapter is also proud to have Procter & Gamble as a sponsor of our Young Readers Program which will start in Cincinnati in the Fall 2007.
Procter & Gamble was also the sponsor of the Hispanic Women Leaders' Luncheon, where Lourdes Ribera received an award on behalf of P&G. Procter & Gamble has been consistently ranked by "Latina Style" Magazine as one of the 50 best companies for Latinas to work for in the U.S. As the premier Hispanic convention, the LULAC National Convention draws over 18,000 people each year including the top leaders from government, business, and the Hispanic community. Also present were representatives of LULAC chapters of Cincinnati, Dayton, Butler County, and Columbus. Entertainment was provided by Grupo Niche, La Mafia, and many others.

LULAC Ohio : Cincinnati Hosts LULAC Ohio's State Convention

| The League of United Latin American Citizens, LULAC, held on Saturday, June 30, its annual Ohio State Convention at the Cincinnati-Hamilton County Community Action Agency. Councils from across the state of Ohio convened in Cincinnati to discuss regional issues, set policies, and elect the organization's state leaders. Rosa Caskey was re-elected as the Ohio State Director, and Jason Riveiro was elected State Deputy Director. In addition to the LULAC membership, the state convention invited other civil rights organizations and local leaders to discuss the various issues affecting the Hispanic community in Ohio. The panel discussion included Gary Hines (NAACP), Brent Meyer (CAIR), and Chris Link (ACLU Ohio). The conference was opened by Gwen Robinson, President/CEO of Cincinnati-Hamilton County Community Action Agency. where the conference was hosted. |

This event is free*** FBI CREST Program for Latino Leaders When: Friday June 15, 2007 from 9:30am-12:30pm (light breakfast will be provided) Where: Santa Maria Community Services (room TBA) What: Presentation by FBI Agents on Civil Rights, Legal Constraints and Violent Crimes. This event features booths from many social service organizations sharing important health and safety resources. In addition to the blood drive, fire safety workshop and health booths there will be many children's activities, including face-painting!

Cincinnati : Protest against "Big Juan" Ads

Several Cincinnati organizations that signed a request to WLW 700 Radio Station for an immidiate removal of the "Big Juan" ads (to see the press release click here), finding it insensitive and offending to the Latino/Hispanic community, held on Tue. May 8, a press conference. Initiated by LULAC Cincinnati and United Food and Commercial Workers Union (UFCW), the petition has been signed so far by: American Jewish Committee Bridges for a Just Community Brigid Kelly, City of Norwood Council, Ward 2 CAIR of Ohio (The Council on American-Islamic Relations) Cincinnati Interfaith Workers Center Change to Win Coalition for Black Trade Unionist Equality Cincinnati Hispanic Chamber of Cincinnati USA Inter-Ethnic Council of Greater Cincinnati International Center of Greater Cincinnati Labor Council for Latin American Advancement LULAC Cincinnati (League of United Latin American Citizens) LULAC Ohio LULAC Midwest Region Midwestlatino, LLC. NAACP of Hamilton/Fairfield/West Chester/Mason/Lebanon Service Employee’s International Union (SEIU) UNITE HERE United Latinos United Food and Commercial Workers Union (UFCW), Local 1099 The press conference was covered by several TV Stations and newspapers, among them Cincinnati Enquirer and WCPO It was tremendous to see all the organization and people of different religions, ethnic backgrounds, and races, to rally in support of the Latino community. As stated in the petition: "By making this collective statement, we are declaring that we are committed to working together until Cincinnati reflects the type of multicultural and diverse City that we all can be proud to live, work and play".
