The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) Dayton Council # 39000 has selected five (5) outstanding students from the surrounding community to receive LULAC Scholarships on August 4.
Names of the 2006-2007 LULAC Scholarship recipients and the colleges and universities they will attend are as follows:
* Aleici Mireles, of New Carlisle, Ohio, graduated from Tecumseh High School and will be attending Sinclair Community College in the fall to study in the Allied Health field.
* Matthew Arrowsmith, from Campbell Ohio, graduated from Campbell Memorial High School will be attending Ohio State University school of Medicine.
* Nathan Rodriguez, son of Irma and Jesse Rodriguez is from Leipsic, Ohio graduated from Leipsic High School. Nathan will be attending Ohio State University in the fall.
* Betsy Cote, originally from Colombia, living in Dayton Ohio will be completing her studies at Wright State University masters of Public Health. Betsy resides with her husband Daniel and are expecting their first child. Her parents Pedro and Betsy Cote are still I Colombia.
* Lourdes Cordero of Middletown Ohio is from Humacao, Puerto Rico. She will be a senior attending Wright State University to complete her degree in Business Administration. She is a volunteer in local community organizations and a roll model to her children.
LULAC Scholarships will be awarded to students at a special celebration dinner scheduled for Friday evening, August 04, 2006 at (WPAFB) Wright Patterson Air Force Base officer's Club ballroom. Invitations have been extended to many in the Latino community. The public is invited and encouraged to attend. For more information contact Wanda Canales, scholarship committee 937-285-0646. Donation is $40.00 per person or $70.00 a couple and must be prepaid for guest list to be at main gate at the base.
